Children's Sunday: Who You Say I Am | I am not alone

Big Idea

Children’s Sunday: Who You Say I Am

Big Point

I am not alone

Big Word

Be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid of them. Don’t be terrified because of them. The Lord your God will go with you. He will never leave you. He’ll never desert you. –Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIRV)

Parent Discussion

Today we celebrated Children’s Sunday!  We talked about being about to speak up when we are anxious, scared, lonely or afraid. We shared about the availablity of the Kids Help Line and that our mental and spiritual health are so important, especially after many lockdowns, COVID-19 and social isolation.

We also learnt from Joshua 1, that God says that we are not alone. Just as God spoke to Joshua and promised He would never leave him, Jesus promised us that the Holy Spirit would be with us always. Before Jesus ascended to heaven He spoke to His disciples, instructing them to tell others about Him. Jesus said, Matthew 28:20 (NIrV), “Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end.”

God’s promise is the same for us today. The Holy Spirit is with us wherever we go and whatever we face.

Just like Joshua, we can be strong and courageous. When we know God is with us and we are not alone we can face any challenge or battle we come across. We can know God’s peace and comfort when we know that we’re not doing it alone. I am who God says I am, and He says I am not alone.

Use these questions to kick start discussion with your children:

1. How do we know that God is with us?
2. Are there times when you feel alone?
3. What did God say to Joshua?
