Doors: Jesus Brings Salvation to Zacchaeus’s Home (Luke 19:1-10)

Big Point

I can choose the door that leads to Jesus

Big Word

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. -Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

Parent Discussion

A lot of people were not happy about Jesus going to Zacchaeus’ house because of how unpopular he was, but Jesus did not care. Jesus does not care about how popular we are or what kind of clothes we wear. Jesus loves all of us because we are His. He cares and loves us more than we could ever imagine!

We can choose the door that leads to Jesus by asking Him to forgive our sins and by asking to have a friendship with Him. When we accept Jesus into our hearts, we are choosing the door that leads to Him. Just like Zacchaeus, we can choose to be friends with Jesus! Jesus wants to be friends with us because he loves us so much!

Take some time to go through these discussion questions this week with your child. This will help reinforce our teaching objective this week which is “I can choose to be friends with Jesus.” The kids learned this teaching objective from the Bible story—Jesus and Zacchaeus.

  1. Why do you think Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus?
  2. Did Zacchaeus and Jesus become friends?
  3. Why does Jesus want to be friends with us?
