Parent Discussion

In this week’s lesson, we learned about joy through the story of Paul and Silas in prison. They never stopped singing praises to God, even though they were in a tough situation. This type of joy comes from the Holy Spirit and is one of the attributes of the Fruit of the Spirit. Joy is greater than happiness because happiness is a feeling dependent on our circumstances, but joy is a choice we make even when times are tough. Christ gives us His joy to cling to in all circumstances by remembering His goodness and what He has done for us. Take some time to discuss the following questions with your child this week:

1. What is joy?
2. Can you have joy even when bad things happen?
3. What is one way to be joyful when you are sad or upset?
