Parent Discussion
This week, we are learning about how Jesus referred to himself as the gate. Jesus referred to himself as the gate when He told the story of the shepherd, the gatekeeper and thieves. We learned about how anyone who tries to sneak over the wall of a sheep pen must be a thief. But one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of sheep.
Shepherds are the ones who protect and guide their sheep. All sheep need a shepherd because they can easily become lost and often are found wandering. As the shepherd calls his sheep by name, the sheep then follow the shepherd through the gate. In this story, Jesus is telling us that He is the gate of the sheep. When Jesus says, “I am the gate,” He is saying the only way to get to heaven is through Him
- Why did Jesus call himself the gate?
- How can we get to heaven?
- Why does Jesus want to spend forever with us in heaven?
