Fruit of the Spirit (Faithfulness) – The Apostles and the High Council (Acts 5:17-42)

Big Point

Faithfulness is standing up for what we believe in because it is the right thing to do

Big Word

‘But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!’ (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT)

Parent Discussion

This week we studied the story of the apostles at the High Council in order to learn more about the attribute of the Fruit of the Spirit of faithfulness. Even though the apostles were constantly criticized, threatened and imprisoned, they showed faithfulness by standing up for what they believed in because it was the right thing to do. Sometimes we are tempted to be silent rather than share Christ with others or we go along with the crowd rather than do what we know is right. Faithfulness reminds us that we are called to obey God, not others. Take some time this week to discuss the following questions with your child.

1. Have you ever disobeyed because someone else disobeyed?
2. Why did you follow them in their bad decision?
3. Next time, how can you do the right thing?
