Week 15 – Exodus 20:12 (Part III)

Discipleship | Joanne Khoo
July 12

Receive and Reflect (20 mins):

Reflect on your time since you last met. Who has God used to support or speak to you?

Pray and thank God that He has called us into His family. Ask that He would speak to you.

Read (20 mins):

Read Exodus 20:12 and Psalm 68:5-6

God placed us in families related by blood, but for all of us who call God our Father, we have also been adopted into the Family of God. For many of us, our primary responsibilities and relationships will be with our blood relatives, but we should not neglect our spiritual family. There is a Godly and right way in which we are also called to honour our spiritual mothers and fathers, and also a way in which we should be particularly attentive to those who we can invite into our family.

  1. Who has been a spiritual mother or father to you? How have they enriched your life and walk with God?

  2. What do we gain from belonging to God’s family? How fan God’s family enrich (rather than compete with) our blood family?

  3. Consider the people in our church family. To whom could you be a spiritual parent (or elder sibling)? How could you begin to reach out to them?

  4. Have you noticed people in our congregation who seem lonely? How could you help them to feel part of our church family?

Respond (20 mins):

Spend a few minutes in personal reflection. What is the Holy Spirit impressing on your heart?

Take time to share how the Holy Spirit is challenging you. How can you be accountable to each other? Consider keeping a record for the purposes of prayer and accountability.

Pray for each other.
