Week 11 – Exodus 20:8-11 (Part II)

Discipleship | Joanne Khoo
June 02

Receive and Reflect (20 mins):

Reflect on your time since you last met. With what truth has God encouraged or challenged you?

Pray and thank God that He is Truth. Ask that He would speak to you.

Read (20 mins):

Read Exodus 20:8-11

  1. Reflect on your work/rest pattern since you last met. Have you had times of refreshing rest? If not, what barriers have you encountered?

  2. Some Jews and Christians practice Sabbath as a 24-hour period of rest. It requires significant planning and preparation throughout the week to ensure that the time is truly free of work, including household chores. It also requires a plan for the time of rest and discipline to follow through. In one sense, setting aside a time of rest requires work.

What changes would you need to make in your life in order to set aside time (even if not a 24-hour period) for Sabbath rest?

  3. What is holding you back from making changes in this direction? Look for the reasons under the reasons. What heart-level issues are pulling you back?

Respond (20 mins):

Spend a few minutes in personal reflection. What is the Holy Spirit impressing on your heart?

Take time to share how the Holy Spirit is challenging you. How can you be accountable to each other? Consider keeping a record for the purposes of prayer and accountability.

Pray for each other.
